Applying for Disability Benefits from Social Security

The dangers of a career in construction will differ significantly from those of an office job. Serious accidents can and do happen anywhere; but, the danger of injury is substantially higher on a construction site. A broken back from sliding down the steps or severe burns from a gas leak explosion are also possible outcomes. Workers may be unable to prevent these occurrences, despite their severity.

Fortunately, there is funding available to help with medical bills in the event of a workplace injury. Typically, this comes straight from the company's management. However, this sum of money often falls short of meeting the medical expenses and long-term financial needs of those whose injuries have rendered them disabled. There is federal aid available to help with these problems. Those who have been rendered disabled due to an illness or injury are eligible to receive benefits from Social Security.

There must be no doubt that the plaintiff's impairments render him or her permanently and totally incapable of doing gainful employment before a disability claim may be filed. The paperwork involved in applying for disability aid is extensive and thorough. Detailed medical records are part of this. More detailed information about the impairment increases the likelihood that disability benefits will be approved. The extent of disability benefits will be based on the nature of the accident and how long the disability is expected to remain. To determine what constitutes a fair amount of support, a social security disability attorney is typically retained.
