Highlight the current day of week (column) rather than circling it with a blue dot.

The blue circle on the calendar view is bad design. The user's attention is brought to the red line representing the current point in time first and then to the item(s) scheduled or intercepting that line. The blue circle representing the current day of the week is tertiary in the user's bid for focus.

Having both the red-line and highlighted column for the day of the week will immediately draw the user's attention to the exact point in their calendar presence. Thus, scheduled events will be properly oriented to the user sense of time.
