Use of wildcard certificates reduces use of multiple multi-san certs where the same sans are just repeated in every single of the certs. So it saves huge money for customers. Many certificate requests I received recently for set up of CUCM SSO had same common name and SANs. If such certificates are issued, there are high chances of accidental revocation of duplicate looking certificates. With wildcard, you can secure multiple hosts with one certificate and save money and repetition of CN and SANs.
