Webex should recognize user is in a meeting even if it is a non-Webex meeting (Zoom, GoToMeeting, etc.)

Webex allows users to mute notifications, for direct calls when in meetings. However, this only works if a user joined a Webex Meeting, using Webex app. If the user joins a Zoom, GoToMeeting, or other non-Webex meetings, the mute-notifications do not work.

Even if one joins the meeting using the Webex Meetings app, or is on a phone call, using a connected phone, the Webex app does NOT recognize it and mute notifications.

Even if an organization uses Webex for meetings, users may join meetings hosted by external users. Those meetings could be Zoom, GoToMeeting, etc. It is therefore important for the Webex app to recognize perhaps by detecting that the mic/speaker is in use, and do the following in such cases:

  • Update the availability status (to indicate that the user is on a call/meeting)

  • mute notifications

It would really be great if Webex could recognize any meeting.
