Standardize the Publisher's name in the signed code for the Webex app

Customers are using application whitelisting in order to prevent the execution of unapproved applications. This brings challenges with auto-updating software like Webex because they have to consider the fact the updates are sometimes installed by a user and not an admin. Therefore, admins sometimes use the publisher in the signed code from Cisco to validate the software is legitimate.

Cisco uses different CA vendors including, but not limited to:

  • Baltimore Technologies

  • Entrust

  • Digicert

  • Geotrust

  • GoDaddy

  • iPlanet/Netscape

  • Microsoft Certificate Services

  • RSA Keon

  • Thawte

  • VeriSign

The name in the certificate used for code signing may change depending on the standard the external CA has. Cisco has changed the publisher name in the certificate used for code signing multiple times. For example, from Cisco System Inc. it was changed to Cisco Systems, Inc. (one new comma).

The request is to standardize the Publisher's name in the signed code for the Webex application so that admins can use it as a way to whitelist the app on end-users' devices.
