Customer discovered issue where Webex app Notifications were not working on the Webex Wireless phone when a corporate MDM is used to restrict certain administration functions being accessed by end users.
We discovered alerts are being suppressed and are tied to a specific restriction in AirWatch that allows the Status Bar in Android. Other apps on the device that have alert notifications work just fine. his is not an issue with just the Cisco Webex 840/860 phones as the same issue occurs with the Webex app on Spectralink devices when this restriction is in place. The restriction in place to disable the Status Bar because if not disabled it allows the user to swipe down from the top of the screen and access phone settings and potentially turn off needed services. This is not something that restrictions will be lifted.
The experience with a message notifications on other devices (Spectralink, iPhone, others) results in a notification banner, sound and/or vibration on an incoming message. The experience with a message notification on the WebEx Phone (user-mode, non-admin) with a message notification results in no notification banner, sound and/or vibration; only an application icon count number. When the status bar policy is not disabled, both apps: show notify icon on status bar; display a popup dialog; play a tone file; vibrate the device; badge the app icon; and badge count the bar. When the status bar policy is disabled, both apps: do not update the status bar; do not display a popup dialog; badge the app icon; and badge count the bar.
A TAC case was opened on this and instead of seeing this as a Bug, Engineering requests a Feature Recommendation.
